The City of Vernon is developing a Vision Zero Action Plan, which will provide a framework for addressing traffic safety and reducing traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries on Vernon roadways.
About the Vision Zero Action Plan
Vision Zero is an approach to transportation safety that focuses on reducing traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries through a combination of roadway design, policies, education, and other safety strategies. The approach considers the needs and experiences of everyone who travels throughout the City.
Between 2021 and 2025, 906 people were killed or seriously injured on Vernon roadways. As part of the Vision Zero Action Plan, the City will analyze traffic safety data, identify locations and issues that may warrant additional attention, and gather community input to better understand transportation safety needs.
The plan will consider the needs of all roadway users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and transit users, and will provide a framework for identifying and prioritizing potential safety improvements throughout Vernon.
Guided by the Safe System Approach, the Vision Zero Action Plan will identify strategies and recommendations to support a safer transportation network. The plan will help inform future transportation planning, policies, investments, and roadway improvements, with the long-term goal of reducing traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries to zero.
Share Your Input
Your experiences and input can help inform the Vision Zero Action Plan. Please take a moment to share your thoughts about existing roadway safety concerns, locations that may need additional attention, and opportunities for improvement through the City's Online Interactive Mapping Activity.
Community Outreach
Community input is an important part of developing the Vision Zero Action Plan. The City will provide opportunities for residents, businesses, and other community members to share their experiences and perspectives through a variety of outreach activities.
Outreach will be conducted in English and Spanish and may include community pop-up events, tabling events, guided walking tours, in-person workshops, online workshops, and business owner interviews.
