Metro Link Union Station Project

Post Date:August 09, 2024 2:45 PM

On June 21, 2024, the California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) and Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) released the Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Supplemental Environmental Impact Report (EIS/SEIR) for the Link Union Station Project (Link US) to the public.  While the focus of the Link US Project is Union Station, the Project will have significant impacts within the City of Vernon due to proposed infrastructure changes related to BNSF and their Malabar Rail Storage Yard.  The proposed modifications in Vernon raise concerns, as it is anticipated that the Malabar Yard use will negatively impact Public Safety response times, air quality, and traffic.

The Draft EIS/SEIR was available for public review and formal comment through August 9, 2024.  Appendix Q of the Draft EIS/SEIR details the project elements that relate to the City of Vernon.  Based on concerns related to the modifications within Vernon, on August 6, 2024, the City Council of the City of Vernon formally opposed the Link US Project.  Read the City’s Public Comment Letters below:
