The City Administration Department also develops programs to benefit Vernon's business community. The Vernon City Council appoints the City Administrator, who acts as its chief staff advisor and provides essential information for the council's decision-making process.
City Administrator Brian Saeki
With over 28 years of public sector experience and a proven track record of leadership and innovation, Brian Saeki brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to Vernon.
From 2019 to early 2025, Saeki served as the City Manager for Whittier where he was responsible for overseeing municipal government operations, implementing City Council policies, and supervising city department activities with a focus on identifying and addressing key community issues and interests. His tenure in Whittier was marked by significant accomplishments, including the establishment of a comprehensive homeless navigation center, the certification of a Housing Element as part of a General Plan update, and the development of a City Council-driven five-year strategic plan. This plan prioritized enhancing public safety, fiscal sustainability, and the overall quality of life for Whittier residents.
Saeki’ is dedicated to fostering a thriving local economy through the implementation of streamlined processes for new business development, support for small businesses, and cultivation of a business-friendly climate that attracts investment and encourages job creation. Additionally, he is committed to public safety and ensuring robust and effective security for the community.
Before his tenure in Whittier, Saeki held key positions in several California cities, including Arcadia, Downey, and Rosemead, as well as serving as City Manager in Covina and San Fernando. Saeki holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Cal Poly Pomona and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Cal State Northridge.
