Established in 2005, the City of Vernon’s Public Utilities (VPU)’s Natural Gas Division was created to provide its customers with a more cost-effective option compared to the existing competition. Throughout the years, VPU's Natural Gas Division has received several industry awards while successfully maintaining a competitive rate advantage while creating a reliable and advanced network system.

VPU is the only public utility in the state with a high-pressure natural gas transmission pipeline and is the 14th largest public gas system by volume in the United States.

    • This award is given to an APGA member system that consistently operates at the highest safety levels, clearly establishing the system as an achiever of excellence in the field of Safety Management.
  • Safety Contest Award Winner (2021-2025)
    • The APGA Safety Contest is an annual award given out to APGA public natural gas system members for their dedication to keeping their employees safe every day on every job.
    • As a 5-Year Safety Award Winner, VPU has repeatedly demonstrated its unwavering commitment to safety and maintaining the highest standards in the industry.
    • VPU joins only four other public natural gas agencies from around nation to be recognized by APGA for meeting the criteria to win the contest five years in a row.
