Prepaid wireless (per Rev & Tax Code 42100 et. seq.) effective 1/1/2016 The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) maintains a prepaid Mobile Telephony Services (MTS) rate list at https://cdtfa.ca.gov/taxes-and-fees/mts-rates.aspx that shows Vernon at 0%. This does not mean prepaid wireless services are exempt from tax in Vernon. Rather, it indicates that Vernon collects the 5.5% prepaid wireless UUT directly from service suppliers under Vernon City Code Chapter 3.16 and does not participate in the state's optional collection program under Revenue and Taxation Code Section 42101.5. Service suppliers should remit Vernon's prepaid wireless UUT directly to the City using the remittance form provided on this page, not through the state's MTS surcharge system. |
