Be prepared for emergencies or disruption to utility services that may impact the community. VPU has compiled the following tips below to help you stay prepared at home and at work.
Have a Plan: Develop an emergency plan that include communication methods, meetup locations and shelter options with family, friends and neighbors. Keep paper and digital records of emergency contact information, revise as needed to make sure it is up to date.
Ready, Set, Go! - Stay safe with this 3-step wildfire preparation plan.
Ready: Maintain and create an adequate area around the home that is free of vegetation.
Set: Prepare for the possibility of evacuation before the need arrives. Four key elements include having a Wildfire Action Plan, assembling an Emergency Supply Kit, developing a Family Community Plan and Staying Informed by signing up for official emergency communication channels.
Go: If an active wildfire is in the area, evacuating early is the safest option. Part of being prepared is ensuring the necessary essentials and plans are in place for a quick exit.
Stock Supplies: Prepare disaster supply kits with enough food, water, clothing, hygiene and medical supplies for at least 72 hours. Fresh batteries, flashlights, ice chests, power banks and battery powered radios are also recommended during power outages.
Stay Informed: Take time to learn about sources of official emergency information that are available to you, including how first responders and other officials will communicate to you and the community before, during and after an emergency.
Get Involved: Learn about the free training resources, including the Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) and other volunteer opportunities offered in Los Angeles County to help you and the community get ready during in the event of an emergency,
